Install Kitlig
Kitlig runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Download the build for your platform from kitlig.com.

Updates are Windows only
Only the Windows one-click installer receives automatic updates. On macOS and Linux you update by downloading a new build and installing it over the old one. Details in Updates.
You'll also need FFmpeg
Kitlig uses FFmpeg for all of its video work, and doesn't bundle a copy. If you plan to trim, convert, or track video, install it once. On Windows and macOS, Kitlig can do it for you with one button; otherwise it's a single command. Full instructions in Set up FFmpeg. Everything that isn't video works without it, and the tools that need it stay greyed out until it's there.
First launch
Run the installer and open Kitlig. The window opens at 1440 x 900 on a dark interface. The first thing you'll see is the activation card, covered in Activate your license. After activation, a short onboarding tour walks you through providers, FFmpeg, modes, and channels. You can skip it and replay it later from Settings with Replay onboarding tour.
The tray, and what "close" really means
Kitlig lives in your system tray whenever it's running. Closing the window does not quit the app. It hides the window, and any running jobs keep going in the background. That's deliberate: a long video render or a batch of generations shouldn't die because you closed a window.
To actually quit, use any of these:
- Right-click the tray icon and choose Quit.
- Open the burger menu (top left) and choose Exit Kitlig.
- Use the File menu's Quit entry.
To bring a hidden window back, click the tray icon or choose Open Kitlig from its menu.
One Kitlig at a time
Kitlig enforces a single running instance. Launching it again while it's already running brings the existing window to the front instead of opening a second copy.
